Apple Releases Tiger Update 10.4.10

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Last evening, Apple released a major Macintosh Operating System update for Tiger (Mac OS 10.4). The update, version 10.4.10 — the highest incremental update for any version of Mac OS X — is available via Software Update or as a Standalone Updater. The update is available for both PowerPC and Intel Macs.

LA MACTECH is now testing the update to make sure it does not conflict with any hardware and software configurations used by our customers. We recommend NOT updating at this time.

Once we have determined that it is safe to install Mac OS 10.4.10, we will post instructions on how to do so in the next issue of iFAQ's.

Should you receive an automatic update reminder from Apple Software Update and you do not have administrator access, or if you would like to wait for LA MACTECH to test the update before you install, simply click "Cancel."

If you have already updated to Mac OS X 10.4.10 and you are experiencing problems, please let us know by visiting techmuscle.com/support or emailing us at support@lamactech.com. You may also click "Support" on the menu bar and complete a Trouble Ticket. We will receive your support request automatically.

Also, please remember some of these guidelines when performing major system updates:

Avoid performing any other operations (in Mac OS X or third-party applications) while the update process is occurring.

Before installing a major update, make sure all Apple-installed applications and utilities are in their original locations, usually in '/Applications'. (Moving one of these applications to a different location on your hard drive can lead to an incomplete update.)

Disconnect any FireWire and/or USB devices before applying a major system update (except for your keyboard and mouse), then re-connect the devices one by one (checking for issues created by any particular device) after the update process is complete and the system has completely restarted.

Note that the first restart after applying Mac OS X 10.4.10 may be abnormally long and/or the computer may restart twice. This is normal. Subsequent restarts should take place at normal speed.
